Upon release, ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz has a vivid, young, dense, purple-red colour. Very intense aromas with a complex combination of fragrant spices and violets, dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry, are made more complex with great liquorice, pepper and integrated svelte of boot-polish like characters. The Cabernet Sauvignon components were fermented to dryness, before being transferred to oak. Maturation was in approximately 20% French and 80% American oak, with about 30% of this being new oak.

A bright wine with a red rim and a darker plum coloured core. Spicy red cherry and dark cherry combination with a smoky character derived from 15 months in oak. There are also hints of caramel from barrel maturation and pepper from the Shiraz component in the wine. As a young wine, the entry to the palate is soft yet fresh. In the mouth the wine expands to give a range of flavours from cherry and dark berries to a spice-like quality. The tannins are firm, but soft enough so as to complement the fruit weight. The wine has a sweet middle palate, but finishes dry.

Made with minimal intervention, each are single varietal wines of great length and longevity that are a true expression of their vineyard, region and variety. The vines are on average 13 years old, and grow in sandy loam over limestone on the hillside and in red loamy soil over limestone on the flat.
