Professional Reviews

94/100
The Wine Advocate
The blockbuster 2004 Shiraz Springflat's inky/purple color is followed by a wine that pushes concentration to the limit. Made from tiny yields of 1.5 to 1.8 tons of fruit per acre, aged in 50% new and 50% 1 and 2 year old oak (half American and half French) barrels, it is a huge, rich, backward Shiraz that still assaults the palate and olfactory senses. Forget this big, structured, intense 2004 for 2-3 years and drink it over the following 15 or more.

93/100
Wine Spectator
Bright and juicy. A different profile from most Aussie Shiraz, offering ripe red cherry and pomegranate flavors against refreshing acidity and nicely sublimated tannins.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Feb 28 2007

92/100
Wine Companion
Deep purple-red; rich and luscious; very ripe fruit with blackberry confit flavours; soft tannins, and it's easy to see why it has such appeal in the US. This is not to denigrate its appeal in Australia, either.

Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2004 750mL

When poured, the density and depth of the 2004 Struie is immediately apparent; completely black/purple with an opulent magenta tinge. A floral hit of violets makes way for the more brooding aromas of tar, chocolate, licorice and coffee with a subtle hint of cinnamon and spice.

The rich, luscious palate of great concentration envelopes the mouth and silky smooth tannins compliment and complete this elegant blend.

Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz 2004 750mL

Deep black core with an intense purple rim. The nose shows great intensity of blackberries and plum with a cedar dark chocolate edge.  A seamless full bodied palate showing a complex kaleidoscope of black fruits that are not intrusive but mingle harmoniously with the subtleties of the oak.

This wine possesses elegance and fruit purity; the tannins are evident but well balanced producing a ‘silk pillow’ mouth feel that is long and persistent.

Coriole Lloyd Reserve Shiraz 2001 750mL

Deep purple colour. The nose shows intense, complex cedary, fig, blackberry and blueberry with occasional pepper/spice too. A powerful full-bodied berry fruit flavour, with a little sweet English toffee- like oak evident on the juicy, rolling finish. Restrained tannin and acidity coupled with rich alcohol, produce a seamless, peppery, velvety rolling length.
