The Original Shiraz Vineyard is situated next to the Winery itself, some 7kms south-west of the Heathcote township. Planted in 1988 on Buckshot Quarts and Clay Shale, this vineyard is only small in size (5 acres), but is primarily responsible for some of the most intense flavours one is ever likely to put in ones mouth. The fruit from this yard was the fruit used exclusively for the original Springflat Shiraz wines (1991-1996), and has been the base wine for both the Shiraz Reserve and Duck Muck. This vineyard is unique. Only available in magnums.

From vines planted in 1988. 2 yrs French oak. 200 magnums only. Liam reckons this is Wild Duck Creek’s best ever wine. This is a BANG! wine – like stars hurling through the cosmos, everything comes at you in bucket loads, yet never tipping the scales or balance. A 125kg heavyweight straining in a spandex suit.
The Factor is assembled from separately vinified parcels of un-irrigated Shiraz grapes grown in several sub-regions viz. Marananga, Greenock, Krondorf, Gomersal, Kalimna & Ebenezer. Following vinification these wines are matured in both new and old French barriques before they are blended and bottled without either fining or filtration.
Aromas of blackberry, pipe tobacco smoke, black currants and roasted coffee beans with a palate suggestive of olive tapenade and minerals as well as the trade mark saddle-leather so typical of high quality Rhone red wines made from this grape variety.
Complex and concentrated, the wine is cloaked in velvet tannins that will continue to develop for another 10 years at least. The Factor is all that you would expect of a pureblood Barossa Shiraz.
Sourced from material aged between six and ten years old, this wine is the foundation of the style; displaying the fresh raisin aromas, rich fruit, clean spirit and great length of flavor on the palate which are the mark of all the Muscats of Rutherglen. Drink now or cellar.
Wild Duck Creek Estate is one of those cult wineries in Australia, based outside of Melbourne, that has achieved much of its acclaim due to a mixture of excellent winemaking techniques (vinification is entirely effected through manual pressing) and the winemaker David Anderson "Duck" with a keen sense of what good wine is. In 1994 due to a more than abundant crop, Duck filled the winery with grapes, fermenting in anything that didn’t leak! This meant leaving part of one row of Shiraz unpicked in the Original Vineyard. As luck would have it, Duck forgot that these grapes existed until a good friend and fellow Shiraz-lover, David McKee, discovered them three weeks after vintage. The grapes were still in remarkably good condition, albeit a little over-ripe. David McKee insisted that these wines be made separately. He bought a new barrel, and like Duck; gave most of his share away. Only later it was discovered to be quite an extraordinary wine! Duck Muck is a wine of power, concentration, structure and balance.
The first Springflat came from our winery block vineyard. It is approximately 2.5 acres, sits on quartz buckshot clay soils and its production is around 2 tones per acre. Planted in 1988, it has now reached maturity and is capable of producing fruit of incredible depth of flavour.
Grilled or roast beef, big beefy stews, venison, Cheddar cheese.
