Professional Reviews

92/100
The Wine Advocate
The 1999 Shiraz Reserve "Wild Witch" (450 cases produced from 41-year old vines) is, by Barossa standards, an elegant, finesse-styled offering displaying notes of smoke, blackberries, black currants, and a hint of pepper. Layered and rich as well as restrained and measured, this medium to full-bodied Shiraz possesses plenty of fruit purity and presence in the mouth. It should drink well for 10-12 years.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #143

90/100
Wine Spectator
A showy wine, with lots of spicy oak and generous fruit, plump with blueberry and plum flavors and a thwack of sawdusty wood on the chewy finish. Needs time to sort it all out, then should be fine.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Aug 31 2002

Coriole Lloyd Reserve Shiraz 2001 750mL

Deep purple colour. The nose shows intense, complex cedary, fig, blackberry and blueberry with occasional pepper/spice too. A powerful full-bodied berry fruit flavour, with a little sweet English toffee- like oak evident on the juicy, rolling finish. Restrained tannin and acidity coupled with rich alcohol, produce a seamless, peppery, velvety rolling length.

d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2001 750mL

Upon release, ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz has a vivid, young, dense, purple-red colour. Very intense aromas with a complex combination of fragrant spices and violets, dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry, are made more complex with great liquorice, pepper and integrated svelte of boot-polish like characters. The taste is rich, gutsy and virile, with attacking spice, dark liquorice, cherry, blackberry, plum and dried black olive. The level of fruit weight masks the framework of oak tannins; however, the mineral fruit grittiness is balanced with a very long fruit-fragrant, persistent spice will yield a wine of great ageing power.

Torbreck The Factor Shiraz 2002 750mL

Our homage to the great old vines of the Barossa Valley, this wine is composed of 100% Shiraz. Complex and concentrated, the wine is cloaked in velvet tannins that will continue to develop for another 10 at least. The Factor is all that you would expect of a pureblood Barossa Shiraz.
