96/100
The Wine Advocate
The 2003 The Factor (100% Shiraz aged 24 months in old French oak) is a riveting effort that displays the exquisite talent of David Powell. Its smoky perfume of blackberry liqueur intermixed with cherries, acacia flowers, and espresso roast is followed by a full-throttle, multi-layered palate as well as a 60-second finish. This stunning Shiraz should drink well for 10-15+ years.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #161

96/100
Wine Companion
Immensely powerful and concentrated aromas; a full-bodied, richly robed array of black fruits, spice, licorice, vanilla and chocolate; persistent, ripe tannins. Ultra-careful fruit selection has paid big dividends.
, James Halliday Issue: Oct 2005

91/100
Wine Spectator
Rich and ripe, displaying a peppermint character that adds interest to the generous blackberry and cherry flavors. Firm tannins support the nicely focused finish.

Torbreck-The Steading-Grenache Shiraz Mataro-2003-750mL

Since Torbreck’s first release The Steading has been a favourite wine because of the old magnificent vines that produce its core.

The melding of the three traditional Barossa varieties creates a tremendously complex a nd rewarding wine. The Grenache and Mataro are from old bush vines that are pruned in the traditional ‘goblet’ style to a limited number of buds, reducing yields and promoting flavour and colour concentration. Only the free run component of the Shiraz is used in the blend to allow the Grenache identity to shine through.

'On a highland farm the collection of barns, stables and outbuildings is known as a steading. The varieties Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz all stand in their own right. However, in blending, their strengths create a complex wine of solid earthy structure.'

Vinification: Single vineyard components are fermented and were then matured in seasoned French and American oak barrels for 22 months. These parcels are later blended prior to bottling.

Torbreck-The Struie-Shiraz-2004-750mL

When poured, the density and depth of the 2004 Struie is immediately apparent; completely black/purple with an opulent magenta tinge. A floral hit of violets makes way for the more brooding aromas of tar, chocolate, licorice and coffee with a subtle hint of cinnamon and spice.

The rich, luscious palate of great concentration envelopes the mouth and silky smooth tannins compliment and complete this elegant blend.
