This wine is deep maroon with perfumed aromas of dark chocolate and blackberry. There are also some hints of coffee and golden syrup. The palate is an intense explosion of sweet, luscious fruit and toasty oak, even so the texture is silky smooth and creamy and seems to glide over the tongue. Well balanced, the wine finishes with cinnamon and licorice that linger for some time.

95/100
The Wine Advocate
The sensational 2004 Shiraz's inky/purple color is followed by aromas of graphite, blueberries, and creme de cassis. It offers wonderful purity, plenty of stuffing, toasty espresso notes from new oak barrels, admirable intensity, and a tremendous finish. Drink it over the next decade. Former winemakers Sarah and Sparky Marquis have left Shirvington and the wine is now being made by Kim Johnston. Little has changed, although the 2004s appear to be more streamlined and delicate than their 2003 and 2002 counterparts.

90/100
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Dark purple. Ripe blackberry and boysenberry on the nose, with a strong vanillin overtone lending a confectionery character. Sweet dark berry and kirsch flavors teeter toward the liqueur side but are firmed by silky tannins, gaining a pleasingly bitter licorice quality with air. A captivating blend of sweet, ripe dark berry fruit and oak spice, with surprising poise and energy on the close. Not for those with old-fashioned tastes but undeniably alluring, with impressive concentration and a luscious personality.

When poured, the density and depth of the 2004 Struie is immediately apparent; completely black/purple with an opulent magenta tinge. A floral hit of violets makes way for the more brooding aromas of tar, chocolate, licorice and coffee with a subtle hint of cinnamon and spice.

The rich, luscious palate of great concentration envelopes the mouth and silky smooth tannins compliment and complete this elegant blend.
