Professional Reviews

90/100
The Wine Advocate
The 2002 Shiraz The Jester is an exuberant, fun-styled effort . Aged in a combination of neutral French and American oak, it exhibits exemplary ripeness, tremendous fruit, loads of blackberry and cassis characteristics, a hint of licorice, and subtle wood and earth in the background. A fruit-forward Shiraz.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #155

90/100
Wine Companion
A complex mix of blackberry, spice, earth and dark chocolate; savoury tannins to finish; very different style.
, James Halliday Issue: Mar 2004

85/100
Wine Spectator
Lithe, refined style delivers a range of dusty berry, pepper and dried herb flavors on a lean, firm frame.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Sep 15 2004

16/20
Jancis Robinson
Bright crimson. Very concentrated and deep. Rather Cabernet-like with its leafy scent. Backbone and aroma. Salty undertow, very Australian (cf Directors' Cut). Still very chewy and tannins a bit grainy. Lots of tar and minerality.
JR, Jancis Robinson Issue: Jan 2006

Fox Creek Short Row Shiraz 2002 750mL

Very deep red with vibrant ruby rim. Powerful aromatics of blackberry, licorice and all spice. The subtle lifted vanilla from barrel fermentation adds complexity. Typical of our best parcels of McLaren Vale Shiraz, showing strong vibrant black fruit with richness that is achieved only in a region such as this. The depth and intensity of the palate is well balanced by a firm tannin structure. The finish shows great length and has supporting acid sufficient to allow for mid term cellaring. Best Wine - McLaren Vale Wine Show 2003, Best Shiraz - McLaren Vale Wine Show 2003, Gold Medal - McLaren Vale Wine Show 2003, Silver Medal - Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2003.

Fox Creek Fox & Hounds Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 750mL

A special McLaren Vale Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the excellent 2002 vintage. Originally made for a private client from Fox Creek's own grapes, it was for sale to private customers and not available for normal retail sale. The blend in this wine is 60% Shiraz and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz was fermented on skins for 8 days and about 10% of the wine saw barrel fermentation during the later stages of the fermentation. The Cabernet Sauvignon components were fermented to dryness, before being transferred to oak. Maturation was in approximately 20% French and 80% American oak, with about 30% of this being new oak.
