What was originally known for over 100 years as Ellen Street runs along the southern boundary of the Maxwell vineyards. Situated between this road and the winery is a small vineyard of craggy, gnarled Shiraz vines planted in 1953.
Every year these vines bear some of the best fruit on the estate, however in very small quantities, with an average crop of between 1 and 2 tonnes per acre.

Kay's are specialist traditional red wine makers utilising grapes from their own 22-hectare Amery Vineyard. The grape varieties grown are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Viognier, Grenache, Mourvedre and Muscat Blanc.
This winery endeavors to produce to make rich full-bodied fruit-driven wines (using the original Open Fermenters and Basket Press) with small oak cask maturation.
Established in 1978, Greenock Creek is a tiny Barossa winery with a production level of only 2500 cases per year, owned by Michael and Annabel Waugh. These wines, fashioned from old, low-yielding vineyards, have accumulated quite a reputation. The range of wines includes five Shiraz, two Cabernet Sauvignons and a Grenache, all processed at the winery on the Waugh’s Roennfeldt Road property.

Made with minimal intervention, each are single varietal wines of great length and longevity that are a true expression of their vineyard, region and variety. The vines are on average 13 years old, and grow in sandy loam over limestone on the hillside and in red loamy soil over limestone on the flat.

Maxwell of McLaren Vale red wines in particular are appreciated worldwide for the purity of fruit and complementary oak handling. With an annual crush of around 250 tonnes only, the winery is able to separately vinify and mature individual vineyard parcels, maintaining the delicacies and nuances of each batch prior to final blending.
The Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine originates from wines planted in 1972 above the Lime Cave, on the crest of the estate vineyard. The intense concentrated dark berry and mint, lingering tanins and the finely balanced nature of the wine reflects the individual terrior of the McLaren Vale.
