94/100
The Wine Advocate
The 2003 Shiraz is a full-bodied, opulently-styled red that smells of creme de cassis and blackberry liqueur intermixed with smoky meats, espresso roast, jammy black fruits, licorice, earth, and toasty new oak.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #161

90/100
Wine Spectator
Ripe, rich style has lots of licorice character to accent the dark cherry and berry flavors, finishing with velvety tannins and a sweet spicy note.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Sep 30 2005

87/100
Wine Companion
Very concentrated, powerful black fruits; massive wine; a trifle aldehydic.
, James Halliday Issue: Oct 2004

Henry's Drive-Reserve-Shiraz-2004-750mL

Full-throttle Shiraz are fashioned from vineyards owned by the Longbottom family. This is an unabashed, flamboyant, Aussie wine that is loaded with fruit, fragrance, glycerin, and intensity. This is the type of wine that Eurocentric wine tasters and condescending elitists tend to dismiss, but it is a fascinating effort the likes of which are made nowhere else in the world. There is certainly no shortage of flavor, and if you like your wines exuberant, flamboyant, and over-sized, this wine fills the tab, and then some.

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2002-750mL

The 2002 season was characterised by a cold, wet winter and spring, which produced lower yields with good, thick-skinned berries. The cool and dry summer ripened fruit gradually and a warm, dry autumn allowed the grapes to ripen fully, producing some of the best and most exotic characters seen for many years.

Torbreck-The Struie-Shiraz-2004-750mL

When poured, the density and depth of the 2004 Struie is immediately apparent; completely black/purple with an opulent magenta tinge. A floral hit of violets makes way for the more brooding aromas of tar, chocolate, licorice and coffee with a subtle hint of cinnamon and spice.

The rich, luscious palate of great concentration envelopes the mouth and silky smooth tannins compliment and complete this elegant blend.

Food Matching:

Barbecue, ribs, spicy sausages and smoked brisket.
