A vibrant black/purple colour, with aromas of pepper, plum and lifted, animated fruit. A firm structure of ripe and supple tannins provide support to lashings of blackcurrant and nutmeg.  The tannin structure and sheer fruit weight of the wine will enable long-term cellaring.

94-96/100
The Wine Advocate
The finest of this trio is the flagship cuvee, the 2004 Shiraz produced from 80- to 150-year-old dry farmed vineyards in the northern Ebenezer sector of the Barossa. Aged 16 months in French oak and American hogsheads, this larger-than-life, fascinating wine (cropped at .25 to 1 ton of fruit per acre) offers big, sweet, blackberry and cassis characteristics intermixed with notions of smoke, licorice, and pain grille. A wine of amazing extract, richness, and full-bodied power, with great purity as well as balance, this stunning offering should age effortlessly. Filled with personality, it is a tour de force in Barossa Shiraz.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #161

Wine Companion
Glorious purple-red; proclaims its old vine origins from the word go, and carries its alcohol. A rich, sumptuous cascade of blackberry, plum, chocolate and quality oak.

94/100
Wine Spectator
The Viognier component makes a serious statement, adding an unusual apricot quality to the blueberry, plum and spice flavors. Has a chewy texture, but also a sense of refinement and completeness. Offers shades of nutmeg and pepper as the firm finish rolls on impressively.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Oct 15 2006

17.5/20
Jancis Robinson
Very sweet and almost syrupy with pronounced acidity. Ultra-modern as opposed to the classicism of the wine immediately above. Tannins quite obtrusive at the moment. Glamorous but jagged. A wine to admire rather than glug perhaps. Drying, sandpaper finish with quite a bit of heat.
JR, Jancis Robinson Issue: Nov 2005
