This 2002 “St Jakobi” Shiraz is the fifth release of this wine, and has the similar big, full, rich characters as the first “St. Jak’s” produced in 1998. The generous mouth filling dark plum and black cherry fruit flavours, blend well with the vanillin and spicy oak characters. The finish is long, with lasting plummy fruit, complimenting clean, fresh acidity and soft drying oak tannin.

Professional Reviews

94/100
Wine Spectator
Ripe, concentrated and beautifully shaped. A rich panoply of cherry, berry, plum, mineral and licorice that sails on and on. Balanced with just enough juicy acidity to keep it honest. Smoothly integrated oak and refined tannins.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Jul 21 2005

92/100
The Wine Advocate
Fashioned from a 30-year-old vineyard, the dense ruby/purple-colored 2002 Shiraz St. Jakobi was aged 24 months in both new and old French and American foudres. Layered and full-bodied, with notes of espresso roast, creosote, blackberries, currants, licorice, and pepper, this rich, full-throttle, classic Barossa Shiraz.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #155

92/100
Wine Companion
Vibrant mix of black and red fruits; perfectly integrated vanillin oak and fine, ripe tannins. Elegant style.
, James Halliday Issue: Mar 2004
