d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2004-1.5L

Producer: d'Arenberg
SKU: 111
Delivery date: Dispatch within 1-3 day's

Upon release, ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz has a vivid, young, dense, purple-red colour. Very intense aromas with a complex combination of fragrant spices and violets, dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry, are made more complex with great liquorice, pepper and integrated svelte of boot-polish like characters. The taste is rich, gutsy and virile, with attacking spice, dark liquorice, cherry, blackberry, plum and dried black olive. The level of fruit weight masks the framework of oak tannins; however, the mineral fruit grittiness is balanced with a very long fruit-fragrant, persistent spice will yield a wine of great ageing power.

95/100
The Wine Advocate

The renowned 2004 Shiraz The Dead Arm, fashioned from ancient head-pruned vines, is stunning. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a glorious perfume of creosote/melted road tar, blackberry and cassis liqueur, pepper, and spice. This deep, rich, full-bodied, tannic Shiraz should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and will last for two decades or more. It is the finest Dead Arm since the 2001.

WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #167

94/100
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Saturated violet. Pungent tobacco- and espresso-laced cherry, cassis and blackberry aromas, with a hint of mocha. Beautiful dark berry, vanilla and Indian spice flavors expand and gain sweetness with air. The lushly tannic finish positively explodes with sweet raspberry and mulberry flavors, with dark chocolate and exotic blood orange notes adding a vibrant quality. An impressive return to form for d'Arenberg's flagship red.
ST, Josh Raynolds Issue: Aug 1 2006

94/100
Wine Companion
Remarkably elegant and fine in the overall context of Dead Arm; black cherry and blackberry fruit with the mandatory chocolate; fine, soft tannins and controlled oak. Some suggestion of brett, which doesn't spoil the wine for me.
, James Halliday Issue: Dec 2006

87/100
Wine Spectator
Firm in texture, with crisp acidity against mineral-accented berry flavors, finishing with a harsh edge. Gamy, bitter flavors blow off with enough airing.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: May 31 2007
