96/100
Wine Companion
Elegant, medium-bodied; excellent texture and structure; fine, intense black fruits, no hint of alcohol heat; integrated oak, long, lingering finish.
, James Halliday Issue: Dec 2004

88/100
The Wine Advocate
The dark ruby-colored 2002 Shiraz reveals a gorgeous bouquet of creamy oak, melted asphalt, blackberries, and a notion of wood. While some jagged tannin is noticeable, and the finish is shorter than in previous vintages.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #161

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2001-750mL

Upon release, ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz has a vivid, young, dense, purple-red colour. Very intense aromas with a complex combination of fragrant spices and violets, dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry, are made more complex with great liquorice, pepper and integrated svelte of boot-polish like characters. The taste is rich, gutsy and virile, with attacking spice, dark liquorice, cherry, blackberry, plum and dried black olive. The level of fruit weight masks the framework of oak tannins; however, the mineral fruit grittiness is balanced with a very long fruit-fragrant, persistent spice will yield a wine of great ageing power.

Torbreck-Descendant-Shiraz Viognier-2003-750mL

The Descendant is a single vineyard Shiraz-Viognier, which as the name implies, is a direct descendant of RunRig. The Descendant vineyard Shiraz expresses tar and black olive, offset wonderfully by the velvety mouth feel with the jasmine and apricot aromatics of Viognier.

Burge Family Winemakers-Wilsford Very Old Tawny-Muscadelle-NV-500mL

Until 3-4 decades ago, many Australian wineries were better known for their fortified than dry table wines. For whatever reason, many of these fortifieds fell out of favor in Australia, and have never received the respect they deserve given how spectacular many can be. Rick Burge’s ancestors always made fortified wines, and kept the soleras active during their lifetimes. No one will be disappointed in this spectacular non-vintage fortified. Drink now or cellar.
