Torbreck-The Steading-Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre-2001-1.5L

Producer: Torbreck
SKU: 562
Delivery date: Dispatch within 1-3 day's

The melding of the three traditional Barossa varieties creates a tremendously complex and rewarding wine. The Grenache and Mataro are from old bush vines that are pruned in the traditional ‘goblet’ style to a limited number of buds, reducing yields and promoting flavour and colour concentration. Only the free run component of the Shiraz is used in the blend to allow the Grenache identity to shine through.

92/100
The Wine Advocate
The 2001 The Steading is an ageworthy effort. Made from the same blend as the Juveniles, but aged 18 months in old French and American hogsheads (300 liter barrels), it exhibits a deep plum/garnet color in addition to a big, spice-driven nose of cinnamon, pepper, soy, damp earth, dried herbs, and red as well as black fruits. Ripe, full-bodied, and complex, it is a French-styled red that should drink well for a decade.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #148

91/100
Wine Spectator
Ripe and distinctive, a generous mouthful of peppery blackberry, wild raspberry, mossy, mushroomy flavors all in wild profusion. It all lasts beautifully on the finish. An exciting wine with real personality. Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre) and Shiraz.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Jul 31 2003

88/100
Wine Companion
The colour is slightly dull, but not distressingly so; earthy, spicy, savoury fruit aromas are followed by a medium-bodied palate with typical, slightly jammy fruit; not in the same class as the other top-flight wines from Torbreck, but good by any other standard.
, James Halliday Issue: Feb 2003

Coriole-Mary Kathleen Reserve-Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot-2001-750mL

The mild conditions of this vintage resulted in a wine that is dark and dense in colour. Fragrant cassis and chocolate are abundant. A powerful palate showing great richness, structure and length. Very approachable in its early years due to the incredible fruit sweetness but 5-7 years is recommended to fully reveal the charms of this wine.

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2002-750mL

The 2002 season was characterised by a cold, wet winter and spring, which produced lower yields with good, thick-skinned berries. The cool and dry summer ripened fruit gradually and a warm, dry autumn allowed the grapes to ripen fully, producing some of the best and most exotic characters seen for many years.
