95/100
Wine Companion
Bright, deep red-purple; the bouquet offers clean, gently ripe blackcurrant and mulberry fruit together with a hint of cedar; the classy, sophisticated, ultra-smooth and supple palate has excellent flow and mouthfeel. For the record, the wine does have a percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Franc included.
, James Halliday Issue: Feb 2003

88/100
The Wine Advocate
The understated, restrained 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Cyril Henschke, an Eden Valley blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, offers notes of red currants, bay leaves, licorice, and dusty, loamy, earthy scents. While medium-bodied and pure, it lacks persistence in the finish.

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2003-750mL

The 2003 season was characterised by a very low winter rainfall which signalled the vine to minimize potential crop load. The ripening period was warm producing a crop load of small berries and very pure, ripe fruit characters. Even with a smaller than normal crop load many batches showed wonderful fruit characters due to an excellent skin to pulp ratios and this is evident in the final wine. This year in particular selected parcels of fruit deemed worthy of the Dead Arm label were down 50% in volume.

Henschke-Cyril-Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc-1999-750mL

The cabernet sauvignon label continues to carry the name Cyril Henschke (1924-1979) as a tribute to one of Australia’s outstanding winemakers and pioneers in the production of varietal table wines.

Cyril Henschke planted Cabernet at Eden Valley in the late 1960s.

1999 Vintage:  The latter part of spring led into one of the hottest summers on record, with virtually no rain. The drought conditions resulted in smaller berry size producing spicy dark intense reds. Tropical cyclones Elaine and Vance brought unseasonal rains in mid-March, causing widespread botrytis problems requiring careful handpicking. 1999 proved to be another challenging vintage for Eden Valley although the final quality results made it worthwhile.

Description: Deep crimson in colour. Sweet lifted cassis, redcurrant, anise, tar, violets and cedar with liqueur chocolate hints. A complex bouquet of bright black briary forest berry fruits with lush dusty aromas. Sweet fruit, rich, complex, compact, concentrated palate with fruit and dusty tannins; fleshy with firm fine grained chewy tannins on the very long finish.

Serving Idea: Roast leg of lamb with double-peeled broad beans or fresh peas with thyme butter.

Torbreck-The Factor-Shiraz-2001-750mL

The Factor is assembled from separately vinified parcels of un-irrigated Shiraz grapes grown in several sub-regions viz. Marananga, Greenock, Krondorf, Gomersal, Kalimna & Ebenezer. Following vinification these wines are matured in both new and old French barriques before they are blended and bottled without either fining or filtration.

Aromas of blackberry, pipe tobacco smoke, black currants and roasted coffee beans with a palate suggestive of olive tapenade and minerals as well as the trade mark saddle-leather so typical of high quality Rhone red wines made from this grape variety.

Complex and concentrated, the wine is cloaked in velvet tannins that will continue to develop for another 10 years at least. The Factor is all that you would expect of a pureblood Barossa Shiraz.
