Strong bright rim with a mid-deep red core.
The hints of blackcurrant and blackberry are typical characters of this variety. Typically McLaren Vale produces a dark, spicy chocolate character in Cabernet and this is evident. However, this wine has fascinating aromas of mint, leather and dark cherries. The oak shows when the wine is first poured, but with a little time in the glass yields to give a subtle cinnamon, char and cherry combination.
As a young wine, the palate is a little tight. The cherry and chocolate come through as does a blackberry fruit character. The tannin and acidity are firm, but balanced for a wine that will drink well when young, preferably with food. It will develop further complexity with cellaring.

Despite the challenging 2000 Vintage, this Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a great surprise!
Concentrated wine, elegant with firm but integrated tannins, savoury spice, earthy and meaty.
Tasted 25 Nov 2015
Very deep red with vibrant ruby rim. Powerful aromatics of blackberry, licorice and all spice. The subtle lifted vanilla from barrel fermentation adds complexity. Typical of our best parcels of McLaren Vale Shiraz, showing strong vibrant black fruit with richness that is achieved only in a region such as this. The depth and intensity of the palate is well balanced by a firm tannin structure. The finish shows great length and has supporting acid sufficient to allow for mid term cellaring. Best Wine - McLaren Vale Wine Show 2003, Best Shiraz - McLaren Vale Wine Show 2003, Gold Medal - McLaren Vale Wine Show 2003, Silver Medal - Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2003.
Established in 1979, family owned Maxwell Wines, with its seventy acre estate vineyard, has built a reputation for producing hand made, rich and robust reds that combine exquisite fruit quality with structure and finesse.
Located in the world-famous McLaren Vale wine district in South Australia, the winery and vineyards benefit from one of the most favourable sites in the region, providing the wines with a unique expression of the acclaimed McLaren Vale richness and style.
Maxwell of McLaren Vale red wines in particular are appreciated worldwide for the purity of fruit and complementary oak handling. With an annual crush of around 250 tonnes only, the winery is able to separately vinify and mature individual vineyard parcels, maintaining the delicacies and nuances of each batch prior to final blending.
The nose shows intense blackcurrant and cranberry fruit, and the subtle cedary cinnamon spice, barrel-ferment and oak derived aromas, violet and mint scents, as well as liquorice and chocolate smells. Interwined is this wounderful green edge that lifts the wine into a cool climate sepctrum which typifies the cold year. These aromas combine with some cassis, blueberry, and cranberry, with lingering mocha and plumy fruit and are just showing through amongst a long, intense vibrant, gritty fruit tannin finish.
A special McLaren Vale Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the excellent 2002 vintage. Originally made for a private client from Fox Creek's own grapes, it was for sale to private customers and not available for normal retail sale. The blend in this wine is 60% Shiraz and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz was fermented on skins for 8 days and about 10% of the wine saw barrel fermentation during the later stages of the fermentation. The Cabernet Sauvignon components were fermented to dryness, before being transferred to oak. Maturation was in approximately 20% French and 80% American oak, with about 30% of this being new oak.
Appears bright cherry red with a darker plum coloured core. The nose shows licorice and dark fruits, toasty oak with a chocolatey rum & raisin aroma. The entry to the palate is soft with a rich solid palate that is typically McLaren Vale, with blackcurrant and stewed plum flavours. The structure is typical of Fox Creek showing ripe fruit tannin with integrated oak complexity.
Deep red central core with vibrant purple rim. Showing typical McLaren Vale Cabernet aromas of spicy blackberry and chocolate together with mint and dark cherries complexed by lifted oak char and cinnamon. Intense black fruits and cherries are supported by firm acidity and enveloping tannin structure giving great balance to the depth.
Vibrant deep red black with intense violet rim. Powerful lifted complex fruit aromas of cassis, tobacco leaf and subtle spicy oak. Intensely fresh cassis and blackberry flavours with cinnamon and licorice complexity. The fruit weight is balanced by enveloping firm tannin structure and the finish has great length.
