d'Arenberg The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 750mL

Producer: d'Arenberg
SKU: 99
Delivery date: Dispatch within 1-3 day's

This wine has a deep, dark, vibrant appearance with an almost plummy-red hue. The nose initially shows an intense mix of coffee, cassis, blackcurrants, blueberries and dried cherry notes. As the wine opens there are complex spiced, tarry, hung meat elements and fine-grained oak characters lifting through. The palate is intense with a mix of dark black fruits, violets, cassis and red currents which linger towards a chocolatey dried herb finish. There is an immense concentration of fruit that hangs off a central backbone that runs down the roof of your mouth which softens the wall of tannins that encapsulate this wine. The purity of fruit is superb. its long, the flavours are dominate red as it fan tails out to the finish leaving a palate texture reminiscing of home-made pastry made with real butter.

Professional Reviews

94/100
The Wine Advocate
The spicy 2003 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon (aged in equal parts new French and new American oak) reveals copious quantities of black currants, cedar, vanilla, and white chocolate aromas, followed by spicy, tannic, full-bodied, powerful, dense, well-structured flavors.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #161

94/100
Wine Companion
No doubting the region; black chocolate surrounds the blackcurrant fruit centre; good tannin and oak management.
, James Halliday Issue: Oct 2005

88/100
Wine Spectator
Firm, with pretty blueberry and currant flavors at the core and dusky herb and cedar notes weaving through the mildly chewy finish.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: 2005

A rich, round, soft, voluptuous, fruit driven Shiraz with a hint of confectionery sweetness in the background. A very approachable full bodied combination of blueberries, plum, Ribena, mocha chocolate, spice box, vanilla and pepper fill the palate with pleasurable flavours and the balanced soft tannin finish has both length and persistence.
