Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, together with other investors own and operate Branson Coach House. They purchased the winery and vineyard in 2001 with the sole aim of creating and establishing one of Australia's greatest estate grown and made wines. With the release of the 2002 vintage, Branson has received outstanding critical acclaim. The wines possess all the elements of a great estate; power, intensity and the ability to age over the long term. This single vineyard and winery are located to the south of the township of Greenock in the western Barossa Valley, the source of some of Australia's greatest wines. The Branson vineyard was planted in 1990 to 14.5 acres of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the fabled deep red clay soil that dominates the area; a key element in the unique terroir of this small pocket of the Barossa Valley. Since its debut under the current ownership, Branson has received outstanding critical acclaim. Under the Branson label three single vineyard wines are produced; the Coach House Block Shiraz and Coach House Block Cabernet Sauvignon and the second label the Greenock Block Shiraz.
A multi dimensional bouquet of roasted meats, mineral, cola, tar and blackberry. Give this one time to open up, this monster is built for the long haul! The palate starts out thick and coating; immediately powerful and explosive, you are then thrown a huge chunk of fruit while the acid and tannin roll around trying to tame it. The wine shows great oak handling and remains succulent, complete and perfectly balanced.
Almost black in colour with purple flints - excellent depth. The bouquet is tight, demonstrating pine needles, dusty cherries, liquorice and beef blood. The palate is initially sweet, with a beautiful framework of purple fruits, earth and tar. Excellent acid balance with good fruit concentration building in the mid palate finishing with dry grainy tannins.
Deep purple colour. This wine possesses a complex bouquet of red berries, cedar, mint, tobacco, espresso and chocolate. This wine displays a soft coating texture; the rich fruit drives straight across the palate displaying a medium to full bodied intensity. Flavours of cloves, chocolate and lifted purple fruits mingle with the unobtrusive oak.
